A full and busy week in the studio of Inspired by Script

I have to admit... Vintage is really

'Not my thing' however I couldn't help springing into action

when a friend needed an extra pair of hands.....

First the seating plan.....

And then the menus.....

To be honest.... when I had made them, I was quite taken with them.

Perhaps the soft greens and pretty pinks, brought out the romantic side of me?

I was asked if I could print peoples names on 

Wishing tree tags and 

still cut them out as hearts.......seems I can :-)

Then of course there was Gill and Peters

gorgeous Turquoise/kingfisher  Blue foil

Then there was an Order of Service to make

for Nicky and Adam, who get married in just 5 and half weeks.

they were made to match a previous order of Invitations......

Again... the gorgeous Kingfisher Blue foil 

is proving to be very popular! 

The I realised it was my son and daughter-in-laws

4th Wedding Anniversary.

I just HAD the urge to design something in Paper Cuts for them,

using a floating frame so that their stunning wall colours show through,

wherever they decide to hang is.....

And... last but not least....

A design for Lindsi and Kyle.

My very first order n Black Foil....

Adding some stunning and vibrant 

Hot Pink Ribbon, warms up the black.

Sexy or what?

Tomorrow is the Wedding Fair at The Golden Lion Hotel, in Northallerton. Thankfully close by, so I can have a bit of a slow start.....Blimey! I think I need a holiday :-)

Don't hold back your Jiggery Pokery!

So..... there I was at the studio..... waiting for emails to confirm the go ahead on the next lot of Wedding Orders (as sometimes happens), twiddling my thumbs and waiting for my partner Steve to get back from visiting relatives. And seeing these inspirational pieces by Kyleigh's Paper Cuts  last night didn't help either! I just had to use the spare creative time and put it to good use!

Unlike Kyleigh, I design on computer and cut on machine.... which sometimes doesn't work out as I want it to! 

However.... using the right depth to cut helps!

you would think by now I would have checked that first!

Old dogs, new tricks spring to mind!

I have my son and daughter-in-laws Wedding Anniversary coming up soon,

And thought if I was going to have a play, it may as well be for a good reason....

After a bit of jiggery pokery and surprisingly no swearing, it eventually turned out ok I think :-)

I'm planning on putting it into a floating frame and then it can be hung in any room as the background wall colours will show through :-)

Being busy with back to back Wedding Stationery orders I don't get much time to play and experiment these days.... but I managed another couple of things this week.... 

I was frustrated that the Website and blog didn't look the same... they looked 'similar' but not the same. I tried Dynamic views on Blogger, but to be honest, I wasn't impressed and decided after redoing my Website Template to revert back! Anyway... I've managed to recreate the top of my blog to look even more like the website, by saving the header as a picture, then again using a bit of jiggery pokery I managed to come up with this:

Then I got asked if I could make 100 cut out hearts with the Bride 

and Grooms name on them... errrr......It seems I can....

The thing is... I'm a VIRGO! There you go... you heard it from me!

And while I admit I'm not the tidiest of people,

once I have a challenge, I find it hard.... no, let me say that again...

I find it IMPOSSIBLE to let go!...

and I just HAVE to find a way round it, if possible!

Then a Bride sent me an idea she had seen for some thumb prints turned into hearts...

and wondered if I could make something using their fingerprints.... 

I had seen this idea before on Pinterest, 

and the ones I had seen were actually rubber stamps.

I wasn't sure how they would turn out once foiled.

As with any unusual request, I had to say

"I've no idea how it's going to work,

or in fact if I can do it... but I'll have a damn good try!" 

This is just a mini prototype......

And after meeting with the Bride we've actually mashed 3 ideas together, 

but as I'm working with her at the moment, I'll keep her ideas top secret,

there's one thing that is a dead cert.... they will DEFINITELY be unique!

That's the biggest pleasure of getting to 'know' the Bride and them getting to know me.

The ideas can then be thrown into the pot and out come the creative juices.

Cut Out Lettering - Two Souls with a single thought

Two hearts,

that beat as one!

I've been fascinated with cut out lettering

here's one of my experiments....

There's something really special about paper cut out lettering.

I've been doing a few of these lately,

to be used as Wedding Day Gifts.

I'll post more very soon.

More Cut Lettering.... This time on Signs.

Since my post on Cut Letters in Paper experiment,

I have to tell you that as soon as I had a little bit of spare time,

I had to make some signs.

The first one is for my Wedding Website 

And is simply a 24" x 5" white painted sign, 

to direct guests to the Bride and Grooms Wedding.

This quotation brings back lots of happy memories.

With 3 kids at home and mostly all their friends round too,

this was a regular saying my mum used to come out with.

At times the house was chaotic....

and to some, must have seemed like a Mad House....

but everyone was made welcome and 

the saying always brought a big smile to visitors.

The next one... I am NOT laying any claim to.

The quotation greatly amused the person who suggested it...

so I did it for him

The original one does NOT have the word blanked out,

I was trying to protect my reputation! (she says tongue in cheek!) 

Anyway....all these signs are on painted MDF. 

I'm sticking to 3 sizes of sign at the moment to see how they go.

The sizes available are:

24" x 6" and will be on sale for £20

30cm x 21cm (A4) will sell for £15

and then small 21cm x 10cm ones will sell for £7.50.

I'll make a few as examples for the website....

but as per usual, everything can be made to order.

Cut Letters in Paper.... Experiments as a way of relaxing.

As a way of shutting down from commissioned work, 

I do like to play and experiment.

I have lots of new ideas and I'm having

 a great time with cut out letters

 I have a 'thing' about wanting  the words to come out in one piece,

with no joins. Perhaps it's my love of poetry 

and prose and seeing how words fit together. 

I loved this quotation, and just HAD to cut it out of paper,

 to be framed and ready for sale on my Wedding website.

 I think it would make a great gift for newly weds. 

 It was my brother-in-laws 40th birthday this year

so I just had to make him an extra special card. 

 And I have just finished a wedding order for this couple

It looks great on Cadbury's Purple.... the colour they chose for their invitations.

And probably my favourite quotation,

I have sold countless connotations of this little quote,

who's words are few, but mean so much. 

Experimenting with Paper Cut-out Letters

I've experimented with and shared on this blog, cut letters before and last week I had a quiet spot and made some more

Here is the paper cut out, shown next to a knife for scale

I wanted to have a go at mounting there in a floating frame,

so the background of any wall will show through

Quite hard to photograph, 

but I've done my best :o)

All you need is love.....

Of course, these are still in their infancy,

A Personalised Birthday Card Using Cut Letters and Foiled Print

It's some time now since I bought my Foil Machine and Plotter and I must admit that it's taking some time to get to grips with the plotter....but I'm a winner not a quitter and quitters never win.

The programme has a language of it's own and they don't come with a user manual. I think they expect anyone who uses one of these to be 'In The Know' so to speak....so it's been a steep learning curve, but fun along the way.

It's my Sister-In-Laws Birthday on Monday and I decided to try and excel myself and use both the Foiler and the Cutter in one design.... I just didn't think it would take me a day to create it lol.

First the foiling way printed in a gorgeous hot pink and then the cut lettering was done making sure that the letters were cut within the already printed design....a lot of mistakes and trials to get this far :o)

The letters will come in handy as next year I'll just glue the cut ones onto a piece of card....well it's a thought! The name came out in one piece as I made sure that each of the letters was connected to the ones either side.

I then trimmed away the bottom edge of the card and inserted a beautiful purple to set off the lettering. I just love the shadows made by cut letters don't you?

All in all, I'm over the moon with the results, but unless someone wants to pay me a days work or I get pretty much faster at these I will not be offering them for sale at the Inspired by Script studio or on the website.

They are however stunning and if you are on my birthday list, I may very well repeat these cards for my friends....time permitting of course :o)

Witchy Gift

While playing with my vinyl cutter I just had to make this sign...suitable for any Witches Kitchen. It's currently on sale in my Folksy Shop here

This wall hanging is perfect for any Witches Kitchen. The plaque measures a generous A4, (21cm x 29.7cm) and is made from 9mm MDF.

The plaque is painted a soft cream and the lettering is turquoise, but I'm happy to do any colour combination you like.

New Gallery Sign

Well, I just HAD to have a go at cutting Vinyl! Sometimes I am hard to find.... my address is 288a High Street....but I am actually on the High Street, at the far end to be honest and down a wide alleyway.I often need to run out and direct my customers in especially if they are new or unfamiliar to the area.

I already have a large sign up outside my studio, but needed one at the end of the wall closest to the passing, potential, customers.
I love the contrast of white on black. Still easy to read but far more eye catching and striking, don't you think?

Although the word Gallery is easily seen I still thought it needed a bit of explanation as I didn't want people thinking I just sold Art and usually the word Gallery conjures up highly expensive pieces for the wall that only the well off can afford. My Art and work does not break the bank!

SO, still obsessed with those overlapping letters I made a simple arrangement of Art, Crafts and Gifts to go on the end. The grouped letters will slow people down a bit so they can work out what it says and hopefully guide them down the alley way or at least find me when they need my services.

And here it is in place. Using an already existing sign I had no need for planning permission which helped greatly.

Cut Letters - It's all such great fun!

I'm fascinated with the cut letters I can produce and have been playing around with overlapping letters. This is the pre-cut card before the quotation is taken out....

The idea behind this was that the quotation would come out all in one piece....and I almost succeeded. These are the letters placed onto a piece of contrasting paper. Of course, when glued down and positioned, the quote will look very different, neater and more easily readable.

I've also adjusted the sizes of the letters to make them more graphic...I can't wait to do more of them.

Cut Letters Birthday Card

Just a couple of days after my sisters birthday, it happens to be my brother-in-laws. I've been playing around with my cutting machine and just had to experiment with turning calligraphy into a cut letter design....I thought I'd share the results.

I'm finding these cut letters really inspiring and have ideas buzzing around my head, which I will share as they are produced. The idea for these is that I will produce names to order, especially for special occasions.

Cut Letters

From the time before I was even interested in Calligraphy, I have been interested in cut and etched letters, in fact the whole idea of learning lettering was to carve in stone and etch on glass. Somehow, the time taken to learn good letterform was grossly miscalculated and the resulting loss of my centre vision in 1997 then made it an impossibility.
Before loosing my sight however, I did a few pieces where I cut letters from card and mounted these on top of card again, resulting in a sort of relief effect. Again, loosing my sight would make the chances of me turning any future ideas into reality.....until my new toy arrived 2 days ago!

Using a computer programme, which incidentally is becoming a sharp learning curve and more than a little challenging, I can now sent my graphics to a cutter and cut out tiny letters or large ones.....no centre vision needed :o)

I've lots of ideas and they are coming thick and fast! At the moment I am at the playing stage and I know that I cannot rush the learning process, just as with calligraphy. There is no easy way to jump ahead.

These are just trial pieces and there will be more 'proper' work to come, of which I will share on the blog and may even add them to my shop.

I think they look superb and I am well pleased with the results so far.
